Dalle prime ore di questa mattina, a Bor, nello stato del Jonglei, é stato registrato un violento attacco ai danni della popolazione civile all’interno del campo allestito per gli sfollati.
Un gruppo di giovani uomini armati, questa mattina, ha fatto irruzione nel campo, aprendo il fuoco contro i civili. Le vittime sono 48, soprattutto donne e bambini, oltre 50 i feriti.
Gabriel Hilaire, project manager per INTERSOS, al momento dell’attacco, si trovava nel campo per una distribuzione di kit d’emergenza. “Li ho visti arrivare, armati. Hanno iniziato a sparare in mezzo alla gente che aspettava: donne, bambini, anziani inermi. Non abbiamo potuto far altro che correre, ma non tutti si sono salvati” racconta, mentre ancora si sentono i colpi di arma da fuoco a poche centinaia di metri.
Lo staff di INTERSOS si trova a Bor per assistere la popolazione sfollata che vive nel campo. Quasi 5.000 persone, da mesi, vivono qui per sfuggire agli scontri e gli operatori INTERSOS portano avanti attivitá di assistenza, supporto e protezione dei gruppi piú a rischio, donne e bambini, attivitá educative e distribuzioni di beni di prima necessitá.
Tutto il personale INTERSOS adesso è al sicuro.
La situazione nel paese rimane estremamente tesa: l’attaco di oggi a Bor arriva a poche ore dalla notizia che le milizie ribelli hanno riconquistato, dopo violenti scontri con le forze governative, la citta di Bentiu, nello stato di Unity, punto nevralgico per i giacimenti petroliferi.
A causa dell’insicurezza e delle violenze nel paese, più di 800.000 persone sono state costrette ad abbandonare le proprie case, di queste circa 68.000 vivono nei campi allestiti per accogliere gli sfollati. Quasi 4,9 milioni di persone nel paese stanno subendo le conseguenze di questo conflitto.
INTERSOS esprime profonda preoccupazione per la drammatica crisi umanitaria che il perpetrarsi di queste violenze sta provocando nel paese e condanna fermamente i continui e indiscrimati attacchi ai danni della popolazione civile, che da mesi paga in vite umane il prezzo di questo conflitto.
INTERSOS opera in Sud Sudan dal 2006 e da quando quando sono iniziati gli scontri a Juba nel dicembre 2013, ha assistito oltre 60.000 persone distribuendo kit d’emergenza con sapone, zanzariere, coperte, taniche per l’acqua, teli di plastica e portando avanti attività di educazione, promozione dell’igiene e protezione di donne e bambini all’interno dei campi di sfollati.

A group of young gunmen this morning raided the camp, opening fire on civilians. Victims are 48, mostly women and children, over 50 people are injured.
Gabriel Hilaire, project manager for INTERSOS, was in the camp at the time of the attack, for a distribution of emergency kits. “I saw them coming, they were armed . They started shooting in the crowd: women, children, elderly were defenceless. We could not do anything but run” he says, while ha can still hear the blows of firearm at a few hundred meters away.
INTERSOS staff is in Bor to assist the displaced population lives in the camp. Nearly 5,000 people live here to escape from clashes. INTERSOS operators here distribute basic need items and carry out activities of education, assistance, support and protection of women and children, the most vulnerable groups.
All INTERSOS staff is now safe.
The situation in the country remains extremely tense: today attack in Bor comes a few hours after the news that rebel regained, after violent clashes with government forces, the town of Bentiu, oilfields hub in Unity state.

INTERSOS expresses deep concern about the humanitarian crisis, provoked by the perpetration of violence and strongly condemns the continuous and indiscriminate attacks against civilians, paying with their life the price of this conflict.
